PELUM-ZWE participated in Africa’s first agroecology conference held in Cape Town, South Africa from 28 to 30 January 2019. The much anticipated conference which was hosted by the Seed and Knowledge Initiative, Biowatch, and the University of Cape Town brought together more than 300 people from Africa who represented farmers, the civil society movement, academics, policy makers, governments and individuals.
The conference had a hype of activities where various themes were explored. Some of these include health and agroecology, consumers and markets, agroecology in practice, urban agroecology and participatory agroecology approaches to building resilient equitable communities. Discussions emerging from the chosen thematic areas reiterated how agroecology is agriculture for the 21st century.
